Mount Airy
Mount Airy, the town that Andy Griffith’s show
made famous, is a friendly little mountain
town with lots to offer visitors. Located in
the Blue Ridge, Mount Airy is a beautiful
place to visit and reminiscent of days gone
by.
Mount Airy is very close to Pilot Mountain,
Pinnacle, Siloam, Dobson, Hamptonville, and
Elkin. It is also relatively close to
Statesville.
Mount Airy is located in Surry County in the
Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, so
naturally there are numerous ways to enjoy
the outdoors. Visit Pilot Mountain State
Park and hike the nature trails to view some
of the beautiful flowers and wildlife. Take
a ride down the Blue Ridge Parkway and check
out the incredible views from the overlooks
and trails.
The Yadkin River is not far away, and it is
a great place to enjoy the water by canoeing
or kayaking. Also, since Mount Airy is the
home of Mayberry RFD from the Andy Griffith
Show, you can take a stroll through the
streets that Andy patrolled and see lots of
things from the show like: Floyds City
Barber Shop, the Old Mayberry Jail, Aunt
Bee’s Room and Andy’s childhood home. Also
there are many wineries in the area - spend
the day sipping wines and learning more
about the vineyards.
