Wilkes County
 Wilkes County is located at the foot of the
Blue Ridge Mountains in Western North
Carolina. The area has several opportunities
for recreational activities and sightseeing.
Wilkes is fairly close to Charlotte, Winston
Salem, and the mountain area known as the
High Country.
Boomer, Purlear, Miller’s Creek, North
Wilkesboro, Moravian Falls, and Windy Gap
are all towns and neighborhoods in Wilkes
County.
 Since Wilkes County is fairly close to the
High Country, there are many activities for
the whole family to enjoy in the mountains.
Wilkes County is located near Boone, Banner
Elk and Blowing Rock so there are plenty of
attractions and things to do. For the
outdoor lovers, there is incredible hiking,
biking and sightseeing in the mountains, as
well as Kerr Scott Lake for those that want
to have fun on the water. Merlefest is also
a very popular bluegrass festival held every
year in Wilkesboro to honor the late Merle
Watson, son of the famous award winning
bluegrass singer Doc Watson.
